My Story

When I finished my undergraduate degree at BYU, I pursued a Doctorate in Chiropractic. In my first quarter of Chiropractic school, I focused completely on my studies. Not only did I sacrifice family time, I almost completely stopped exercising, eating right, enjoying hobbies, and receiving chiropractic care.

Brandon Fox FamilyIt was at this time that I came down with a serious illness. I started to break out in hot flashes and was dizzy every time I started to walk. My heart started to flutter, but worst of all I started to wake up not being able to breathe. As a collegiate athlete, I had never experienced anything like this before. Every night I worried about my life. My symptoms continued to grow and I felt as if my body was falling apart. Over the course of a year, I ended up going to the emergency room twice, a general practitioner twice, a neurologist, a urologist, and a chiropractic neurologist. During every spare moment not spent studying, I searched the internet, talked to numerous teachers at my school, and read every book to figure out the disease causing my symptoms. I went to a cardiologist where they performed an echocardiogram, stress tests, and had dye injected into me during a CT scan. No diagnoses were made. Although religious, I was told to find religion, and deal with the stresses in my life. That was it, it was blamed on stress. If anyone has ever experienced anything like this, you will understand where my mind was at. I didn’t know if I was going to live to see another day.

Dr. Brandon Fox & BrittneyIt was during a chiropractic visit where the doctor psychologically slapped me upside the head by asking a couple of questions. Are you eating right? Do you exercise? Do you find time to do your hobbies? I replied no to all of his questions. His last question was, are you receiving regular chiropractic care? I told him every once in a while. It was then that I realized that I was not living a wellness lifestyle. I was going to be teaching this, but I wasn’t doing it myself. I was so focused on trying to diagnose myself that I lost track of doing those things that would bring me better health.

My paradigm switched that day. I started eating better, exercising, coaching the wrestling team at the local junior high, and I received regular chiropractic care. My symptoms started falling off like leaves in the fall. This is where my belief in chiropractic care and overall wellness care was solidified. If we stop focusing on symptoms and focus on the kindergarten answers of, Eating Well, Moving Well, and Thinking Well, people would be living a longer, healthier life.
